This year, National Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13.  Fire is a common danger to households and businesses.  Often, fires are caused by human carelessness or negligence, but they can also be a result of a natural disaster or accident.  This month we are urging you to be aware of proper fire safety precautions and to have a plan developed in case of a fire in your home or office.

Don’t wait until you’ve filed a claim before you take these prevention pointers into consideration, and always keep your agent informed of changes in your lifestyle or possessions that could affect your insurance policies so that they can ensure that you are optimally protected at all times.

Fire Safety and Prevention Tips from Your Insurance Connection:

  • Protect your property with a proper insurance policy before any damage occurs
  • Develop an escape plan and share it with your children, spouse, or employees
Know where all exits are in your office building or home
  • Keep fire extinguishers within easy reach
  • Check your smoke alarm regularly to ensure that it is always properly operating
  • Consider documenting your belongings with digital pictures (you can send those to your insurance agent to keep at a location outside of your home)
