Saturday is New Year's Eve.  2017 is knocking on the door and it seems like everyone will be happy to escort 2016 out and welcome 2017 in.  Part of ringing in the new year consists of looking back at the year that was.  We found this infographic about 2016 weather events and can't help but think of how much money was exchanged in insurance claims because of it.  Actually, according to iii.org the amount of money for insurance claims from catastrophic weather was at $7 billion by early October, which is an increase over 2015's $15.2 billion.  Likewise, there were 40 weather events classified as catastrophic by early October, 2016 compared to 39 in all of 2015 and 31 in all of 2014.

The new year is always cause for celebration as it brings with it new beginnings, new opportunities, a sense of a second chance and a renewal of what's important.  Some of the more obvious insurance connections to celebrating on New Year's Eve has to do with parties.  If you're hosting a party, consider getting special event insurance to prevent potential liabilities like serving guests alcohol and letting them drive, or serving minors, or personal property damage.  In the event of an accident, you, as the party host, could be held liable for any injuries sustained.  If you are hosting a party and have any questions, give us a call at 636.391.0700 and we'll walk you through anything you might need to be aware of so you're covered appropriately.

If  you're not hosting a party but plan to attend one, please be responsible and consider your actions.  We talk a lot about drinking and driving and the consequences that come with making poor decisions.  Have fun, enjoy your family or friends and ring in the new year with as much optimism as you can muster, but please, do so responsibly.  With that, let's have a look at these fun infographics about New Year's Eve.  Happy 2017 everyone!
